Reaction Paper 5/ Landscape

The photographer that I chose for this paper is Jeremy Turner. His work is absolutely beautiful. In his pictures, he does a great job of capturing true nature as it was meant to be seen. Jeremy captures the concept of space by focusing on the entire world around him. Everything he sees could be his space at that moment. Although I am not even in the same league as him, I can really understand his pictures and like him, I try to capture the entire world around me. After all, everything around us is our place, it just depends on if you are in a country place or a city place. For me, I am in the country most of the time and that is why I have the country pictures. When you look at Jeremy’s photos you can really see how he likes to bring out the vibrant colors of nature and the world we live in. Although he does have some black and white galleries, I prefer his work in color. He really captures great contrasting colors as well. Another thing that I really liked about Jeremy is his biography. Here are his final words from the biography, The natural world is more than just a place for weekend and holiday escapes. It sustains us, and without it life here will become untenable. If we learn to care a little more and consume a little less, we may stop the irrevocable loss of our remaining natural environments before it's too late.” Another thing that was interesting to me was one of biggest influences was Ansel Adams. Jeremy Turner was a scholar as well. Before he decided to pursue photography, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and then his PhD in Molecular Biology. He really enjoyed biking and running marathons, and that is when he fell in love with the world around us all and decided to capture everything, one photo at a time. I also like how he said that when he is looking for a good picture to capture that he only hikes or walks, driving is just too fast. I really like this point of view because it seems that we all get too caught up on where we are going and forget to look at the rest of the world on the way. Well I hope everyone else likes his work. 1. I really like how you added the point about his background and how he did marathons and hiked. I run also and when you are running long distances you really do look at what is around you and you notice all the different things.

  2. Nice essay. And the photos are great. He has a point about slowing down and taking the time to check things out. This is a "now" society, slowing down to enjoy the things around you is good advice.

  3. I agree with you- His work is amazing I have also looked at some of it. But he does a great job of really trying to show the entire picture like you said the entire world. I also agree that color pictures are great because they show so much more of the world. Because thats how it really is and you shouldn't want to take the beautiful color out of the world.

  4. I really like your essay about the photographer that you chose. I also really like the photos that he takes. The colors in these pictures are very cool because I have never really been able to capture color like this in a picture before.
