When reading this essay, it is obvious that he is not persuaded by photo shop because he feels that it takes a lot of the effort out of photography. like the motorcycle being chased by the tornado, was obviously photo shoped but the scene never actually took place. He feels like it took out all of the challenge of capturing a great scene with a camera when all a person has to do is take two pictures and put them together on photo shop to create the perfect scene.
When I am asked where to draw the line on when photography ends, I will argue that any level of photo shoped pictures is still photography, just a different kind of photography. There is the challenging photography where it takes hundreds and hundreds of shots to get the perfect shot, where as the photo shopping photography is still very much photography it just takes different parts of an artistic nature to reveal the photography .
I can see certain frustration with photo shop when people use it to create scenes in an hour and fifty shots, and have the same turnout as someone who actually took the time to visit several different sites and took hundreds of snapshots with a camera and only have one or two that actually turned out exceptional.
But in the end, I think that it is all photography because it all comes down to the artistic nature of photography itself, and even though photo shop makes it easier to get that “perfect shot” I think that it should still be considered photography.
