“If you were running a photography contest, at what point would you draw the line and say, ‘That’s not photography anymore?’”
If I was running a photo contest, I would say that any image that is not a composite would be considered. This is because when you alter the color, contrast, red eye, land lighting; it does not affect the original image. It just enhances the original image. This is because I believe the ‘Art of Photography’ is from finding the right composition and timing to make the perfect image. The reason that I would not allow composites (like the motorcycle and the tornado & the lighthouse and the birds) is because they are not image that actually happened. To me is takes the art out of the ‘Art of Photography’ , and puts it back in, in a totally different way. I know that is takes skill to make a good composite but it is just not the same. To me there is a place for the combination of photography (composites), but not in a photography contest. Unless it is just for them. Also, it is not fair to the person that wait around forever waiting for just the right image.
I agree fixing small things in a photograph does not change the original image to a point that you could not see it.
