Reaction Paper 3

In the essay by David Pogue he brought to our attention a very good question that many people will think twice about after they read it. "If you were running a photography contest, at what point would you draw the line and say, 'Thats not photography anymore'?" I personally believe that a 'real' photograph is taken when it is taken with no adjustments afterward such as putting it on your computer and uploading it onto Photoshop. Making adjustments with the focus and lighting on the camera before taking the picture is fine, but once you open it in photoshop and make adjustments such as lighting, contrast, saturation etc.. it is no longer a true photograph. i believe a true photograph is the picture itself with no changes made to it. How can a picture if a guy on a motorcycle driving away from a tornado even sound true or a real photograph? I do believe, though, that after you do edit a picture on photoshop you should credit photoshop for it. i mean it is timely to actually work with photoshop and edit a picture on there so pictures that are edited on photoshop can be called creative edited pictures, but not true pictures. Well the question is, "Where do we draw the line?" I would have to say let people edit pictures on photoshop, but i would give more credit to people who actually take the time to take a nice picture with out having to make changes, instead of the people who take a quick picture that isnt so great and use photoshop to make it better. I agree with David about how next year they
should have seperate catergories for the people who use Photoshop and for the people who take their natural pictures with out making changes. I think this is a great idea because that way they can judge who had the best "natural picture" and who has the best "creative edited picture"
