In a photography contest people would be showcasing their best photographs for judging and later seeing who gets the winning prize. The purpose would be to show off what you as a photographer can do. If I was running the contest I wouldn't allow anything that has been edited in the slightest way. I would want to see what the eye of the photographer can catch using a camera. There's many things that can be done to take an amazing picture. For instance, taking a picture of something normal that everyone sees fairly often from a new angle. This could cause people to not fully realize what the object is right away. A photographer can also change the shutter speed and the aperture. Just in doing this someone can 'distort reality'. The only reason distorting reality is an issue in anything is because of the amount someone can distort reality with Photoshop and other photo editing software. Were it not for this, everyone would see the amazing things that come out of camera's for great pieces of art. This is why, if I was in charge of a photography contest I would want the raw pictures from the camera, not the the edited excuses of poor photography. After all, you can polish a terd but it is still a terd.
