Reaction paper 3

This was a really interesting essay. Before I began reading it I thought I knew the answer. I really believed the answer would and easy one. As I read the article and they explained how photographers change the lighting, the makeup models wear etc. I started understanding how difficult it is to find where to draw the line and say it no longer is a genuine photograph. I remembered how during our last family portrait the photographer asked if we wanted anything taken out like a beautymark or wrinkles. At the time I didn't associate that with photoshop. I thought it's really two totally different thinks. Is it really? I don't know anymore. This essay has really made me think. I can say it kinda changed what I thought before reading it. I believed what it says that a real photographer has a skill of composition and timing. Once you use photoshop the timing is gone. I don't think it that cut and dry for me anymore. Personally I don't think I would know what rules to have for a photo composition. Even simple photos now a days make you wonder, what is reality. I guess having separate categories would be a start.

  1. I thought I knew the answer to the question too right away, until after I read the article. The writer brought up some good points.

  2. Are you considering that a photograph is no longer a photograph if it is no longer genuine? I like that you say this because this means it his a boundaries point. When boundaries are crossed it initially doesnt make it a photo anymore.

  3. You had used the qoute "a real photographer has a skill of composition and timing." I believe this but a photographer also has to have the skills that are necessary. Meaning if a customer wants something done to a photograph, they need to be able to do it. I feel Adobe Photoshop is to photographers what reality TV is to TV networks.
