"If I were running a photography contest, at what point would I draw the line and say 'That's not a photograph anymore?"'
I thought this was an excillent question! At first when thinking about this question, I thought I had an easy answer right away, but after reading the article in The New York Times, I realised it just isn't that simple. I think the things you can do to a photograph in Photoshop are amazing, but I also think there is a time and place for those tools to be used. It's really hard to come up with a straight forward answer to this question, because I don't believe there is one. Like the writer said, "This isn't an open and shut case." I think it all depends on the project on what the limitations are. In some things Photoshop would appropriate and in others it would not. I also think that the world should be less niaeve and more aware that most things seen on tv are minipulated in some way. I think a better question is "Whats reality?" rather than "What is a photograph?". I also think the writer was right when saying that next year there should be a seperate category for Photoshop photographs.
