I found David Pogue's editorial very eye opening. Pogue asked “If you were running a photography contest, at what point would you draw the line and say ‘That’s not photography anymore.’” Many people just edit away their photographs, and make them into something that they are not. I believe that for a photography contest specific guidelines should be ensued, to make the contest about photography again. Photography is about capturing people living their lives, and life in general. Not about making fake pictures, and portraits. That is complex editing. Don't get me wrong, I love editing and think it is so amazing how you can change a picture to make it look completely different from the original, but if you submit a picture like that into a photography contest, it just wouldn't be right or fair. I believe that there is a time and place when major editing is needed and approvable, but major editing is definitely not acceptable during a photography contest. Maybe editing contests should be created to compensate for the loss of major editing during photography contests. The major editors would then have a contest of their own, and editing is a whole different artwork than photography. I think that the only changes that photographers should be able to make, is to the color, brightness, and depth of the photographs. That is still a large amount of editing that would still be taking place, but the picture is still the same picture, just with a few minor adjustments.
