Melissa Pinney

The simplity of these photos is beautiful. I can see emotion in the girls eyes as well as their facial expresstion. It is great to see the innosence that the young girls have. I really like how her photos are not only capturing the people but also the area around them. The Cellar Door series shows the home as the seasons change, how the young girl has grown as well as how her clothing style changed throughout the years. The lighting that Pinney used in all her photos is brilliant. My favorite is the window light in the White Dress series. This is the series that shows the innocenses of the young girls. This comes through when there is no forced smile, it is just true raw emotions. These girls are in their preteen to teen years (the most akward years of a girls life), however these photos show a beautiful side of the young girls.

The series titled Regarding Emma was really hard to understand. I had a hard time with these photos.

I really enjoyed the way that Pinney captured photos of the very young girls. She took these photos from a distance rather than close up. This technique show more lanscape as well as leaving room for the young shild to grow. I have always enjoyed photos that are taken this way. Melissa Pinney is a wonderful photographer capturing the emotions as well as excuting wonderful lighting.

  1. My understanding of regarding Emmma was -- that was her daughter. And she was documenting her aging. Kind of like marking off how tall you are in a door frame. The different seasons and clothes styles shows the time and place of the photo. You can see as she grows taller and thinner, how much she has changed. That was my take on it. But I could be way off.
