Reaction #6
I liked the photos in Melissa Ann Pinney's work with young females. I especially liked the photos of the 12 to 15 aged group. It is such an awkward age. She captures the girls in all the glamour of getting ready for a dance. Then attending the dance. You can see from the looks on their faces, they are unsure of what they are doing. They are trying to be older and more mature than they are. And in the next photo you see them dancing with each and deciding to have a nice time with each other. I also liked the photos she had of mothers. One photo that stood out for me, had several women in a public bathroom, with what looked like 6 kids in various stages of getting their diapers changed. What chaos! But what an accurate take on motherhood. Sometimes just getting the shopping done is an ordeal. Another photo that I liked was of a bride sitting across from several people at a table. And there was one guy who kind of looked like he had popped into the photo. I like the look on the bride's face. It looked like love to me, her eyes were shining. I think that is why I like Pinney's photos. She does a good job of capturing expressions or the setting that says it all, without words. Her settings range from normal life to special occasions, just like life. I would like to see more of her work.

I agree that it is cool that she chose to work with young girls growing up
ReplyDeleteI really liked the dance photos as well. Melissa did a great job of capturing the happiness that those girls were feeling while still showing the current place they were in.
