Project Three Essay

When I was comparing my photographs to work of other photographers, I had a hard time trying to pick just one. So I decided to pick two. The first one that I choose is the work of John Shaw. His work has been published in many publications and books; including the National Geographic, National Wildlife, Outdoor Photographer, Nature’s Best and Audubon. Along with his own six books on nature photography and five books on Photoshop and Light room. In 1997 he was given the first-ever Outstanding Photographer Award given by NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association). He has taken photographs on every continent, from the Arctic to the Antarctic. The other photographer that I choose was John Cang. He is a photographer and a instructor who lives in San Jose, CA. He to is a nature photographer, which loves to take pictures of the wildlife and other nature subjects throughout North America. Although, he is amateur when it comes to photography. He was able to catch the eye of John Shaw (talked about above). He has had many on of his images published in one of John Shaw’s books (American Vision: Images By The Best Of Today’s Amateur Photographers). The reason that I choose John Shaw and John Cang is because of their ability to capture a truly amazing image. I think that their is work is a mixture of all of the photographers that we have been introduced to so far in this class. For example; Jim Brandenburg, Sylvia Plachy, Robert Adams and Stacy Richards. I personally think that they have a little something for everyone in their collections. Weather you like photos of the wildlife or landscape, they have them all in their collection.

I was really inspired by these photographers because of his love for nature. As you will see in my photographs you will see that I to like to take pictures to landscapes. Which I think has many things in common with their work. For example they have lots of detail, colorful and full of life. Even though my pictures do not show has much detail has theirs. I still think that they are really good. I really enjoyed this project. Because it gave me reason to go the places that I really love to go to this time of the year to take pictures. Also, because I was able to be outside looking around at how much beauty there is. Which makes me want to take even more photographs. Which, I tried to show my love for nature and its natural beauty, in many of my own images. I did this by taking pictures of the waterfalls, trees and more in Gooseberry Falls.
