I found Melissa Ann Pinney’s photos very interesting. Pinney’s pictures are trying to capture the life of a child growing up. Pinney’s photos show how they interact with one another and even the feeling that the people in Pinney’s photos have for one another. Pinney’s photos do a create job of creating a story to show you what is going on in the moment. Pinney’s pictures are equivalent to memories that we keep with us for the rest of out lives. As pinney try’s to capture the moment in her photos, it seems as if Pinney takes her photos without warning and without consent. Pinney almost goes about taking her pictures in a way that is unknown by many of her subjects. This method of photography that pinney uses, is effective in capturing the true moment without any posing or acting involved. Pinney effectively was able to show the emotion of the subjects that she photographed.
Melissa Pinney’s style of landscape photography was totally different than what I was expecting. I had prepared myself mentally to be looking at photos of trees, rocks, and flowers along with other outdoor elements. But Pinney choose to photograph people as well. Pinney’s style of photography contains more emotion and feeling than the landscape photography that I am used to, because they contain people as well. With Pinney’s photos you can imagine a story behind each picture to explain the face and body language of the person in the photo. Melissa Pinney’s photographs capture the aroma of the landscape she chooses to photograph by choosing to utilize this style of landscape photography.
I could relate myself to many of Melissa’s photographs. I remember swimming, climbing fences/trees, playing sports and celebrating a win, doing puzzles, gathers with family and friends, getting ready in front of the mirror, and attending scroll dances. Being able to relate to photographs allows you to “feel” for the subject, whether you fell happy or sad. This allows you to reminisce on the good and bad times you have had throughout your life. Melissa is able to capture the essence of growing up, and by making photographs that others can relate to, is a key to being successful in the art of digital photography.
I understand completely where you are coming from when you say you could relate to her pictures. While looking at them I found myself remembering times when I had done the same things with my siblings. It was fun thinking back on those memories.
ReplyDeleteI also felt a connection from her photos. Many girls can relate to her pictures. It is crazy to think about how we are, as individuals, so different and yet we are the same in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteI also was reminded of a simple time. When I was young sharing moments with my sister and cousins. What made this so wonderful was the fact that my mother was excellent at taking many photos.
