Melissa Pinney

I found most of Pinney's photography interesting. The group i liked the most was the girls ascending section. I can relate to this very easily. With the first picture, the girls looks a lot like my age. With the volleyball and her standing in the water, that is something i still do today and did as i was growing up. The funny thing about the second picture of the girls who have the balls in their shirts, i have a younger sister that when i was younger, i did everything with. We would always put volleyballs and basketballs in our shirts to make us look pregnant. The third picture reminds me of when i was younger also because on every Sunday after church i would go to my towns amateur baseball game and would always stand by the fence. i know that they are playing softball but i'm just making the comparison. ( when i was younger, my mom would make me wear dresses to church and sometimes we would go straight to the game so i had to wear the dress there). For the 4th picture, the only way i can really tie into that is how i would always celebrate during sports when i was younger. I like how Pinney has a wide range of grass in the background to tie soccer players into it. the background really connects to the girls in the picture. And crazy enough, when i was growing up, me and my dad would always put together the 1000 piece puzzles so i know how the girl is feeling in the picture. And the 5th one really doesn't connect with me other than the fact that when i was growing up, me and my sisters would always go to the lake, even if it was cold or hot out. I really like her photography. She captures great moments in life. I like how she takes pictures of different stereotypes. to me she shows that when your younger you can enjoy being in water and doing whatever and having a fun personality, and she also shows that as you grow up, you can do the same thing.

  1. I agree, the moments she created are ones that many girls, women can relate to. Whether in the past or today. It is amazing how we are all different and yet the same in so many ways!
