Mellissa Ann Pinney

Mellissa Ann Pinney's work is very different than I thought it would be. It is very interesting to think that one photographer could set all of her photos on one subject- American Women and Girls. As I started looking at her photos I really wasn't all that interested in her work. My type of photography is studio photography although there are many many different types of photos I never thought random pictures of women and girls would be so touching, I guess would be the word to explain it. When I first started looking at pictures under White Dress Project, they were just girls in their white dresses looking like they were waiting to go some where and have a fun entertaining night. One thing I really did not like was the fact that none of the girls were smiling. To me they should be happy and have a bright shining smile upon their faces. Moving on to looking at pictures in the Girls Ascending folder, it was interesting to see random pictures of girls taken around. I love the one of the two little girls with balls up their shirt to resemble them having a pregnant belly. It is possible that their mother is pregnant so they want to be like them. Very cute. And the picture of the girls standing on the cement step looking like they are celebrating a win of a soccer game. All these things are major events that happen in a little girls life, and it is neat how she took pictures to keep these memories. I really did not understand the Cellar Door Series. I am guessing there is a story behind this place and has significant meaning but to me it is pointless? Lastly my favorite album was the Regarding Emma one, it had every picture possible everything from little fun days outside to the major wedding day of a woman. And it showed all ages of girls during the wedding photos because it showed older women who maybe have been married for years as well a middle aged woman just getting married who is starting her life with the one she loves and of little girls who could only be dreaming of the day she will get married. I really enjoyed looking at her photos and they have inspired me with photography in another different way than I ever imagined.
