I decided to do my five hundred word essay on the Australian landscape photographer, Belinda Goldate. Belinda Goldate is a more modern photographer, who loves taking pictures of the vast desert plains of her home country where she was born of Australia. When you look at some of her work, online, you can tell that she loves the sunset, and the intense and rich colors, of the desert. She would go on overnight camping trips out in the desert to capture some of these images at just the right time, she would start fires and cook that evenings meals right over the open fire.
This photographers work is somewhat similar to the work that I completed for this class in week 11 for project 3. I decided to do most of my project 3 on lakes instead of the desert, like she did, but I feel like it is similar because of some of the intense and bright colors that was tried to capture, in both the work of Belinda Goldate and myself.
For my project 3, I focused on Foot Lake, which is a lake that is located here in Willmar, where I am living this year. I went out one afternoon in my truck, and drove all around Foot Lake and took pictures in some parks along the way. In some of the photos, I made sure to capture the reflection on the lake, because it was a really calm, day out on the lake, so the water was just like a mirror and you could see the mirror image of what was on shore perfectly. In other pictures, I liked to capture the trees along the shore I liked to make sure that I had a focal point in the photograph, as well as the water in the background to try and keep the “theme” of my photo collection. I didn’t always get the water in the background, but with either the cat tails in the background, or the saturated ground, I tried to imply that we were near a body of water in the photographs.
When I say that there are some similarities between our two works, I think it is because of the brilliant color scheme that we both strived to capture.
Brilliant colors make a photo visually pleasing. The addition of lakes makes this a magnet to the eye. What a wonderful combination.
