This was lovely to see all the different images of girls. I have one child and she is a girl...my one and only and almost fourteen years old already. I can relate to many of the photographs, even though they are varied in age, race, size, mood and what each girl is doing. I've seen my own girl in a pretty white dress. I've seen her with a ball up her shirt pretending to be pregnant. She's been in the water, in the trees and with all sorts of other girlfriends at every stage of her life.
I see myself in those photos. I remember being innocent and unaware of the big world and all its negativity. I remember when all that mattered was playing hide and seek, climbing the sixty foot pine tree in the back yard and running around on all fours pretending to be an animal. I wish I had a good camera when my daughter was growing up. But I guess it's not the camera or the photographer that always makes a good image, it's the subject.
I like the "white dress" photos because it shows the vast diversity with using just one theme. It makes me realise how different and unique each photo can be. It really shows the uniqueness of each child. If one looks at the true meaning of the photos it shows how beautiful every young girl is in her own unique way. However, it is of epidemic proportions that most young girls don't see their own natural beauty.
I like your comment on how you were unaware of the big world. It is crazy to think that when we were kids, we did'nt have a care in the world.
ReplyDeleteI like that fact you pointed out the ironic theme also of picking one theme to explain the diversity of things. You go very deep into explaining what you see in photos, I appreciate that.
