When reviewing the work of Mellissa Ann Piney, I see a woman who loves to go to the pool, This particular group of photos has many pictures of young kids, and some teens that are in the pool, or hanging around water in some way. If they are not in water, the pictures tend to be of them relaxing and having a good time.
One of the first things that I notice about the pictures is that they all have to do with family, as soon as I review an album, you can tell that she is a family oriented person, and loves them to death. You can also tell that the whole family loves summers. This is similar to the project that I did with the lakes. My goal of the album that I created and posted to flickr was to get the point across that I am an outdoorsman, and have related interests.
The next thing that  you notice is the very intriguing and vibrant colors of the photographs. For an example, the picture of the little girl who is in the pool at the edge, with the naked doll floating carelessly beside her and then the awkward positioning of the feet at the edge is a great picture, especially because you can get a feel for the rest of the location just by looking at the little details that are included in the picture. The setting appears to be in a private back yard pool, (judging by the type of tile that the feet are standing on) and they are probably having a neighborhood  party or BBQ. Another reason why I think that this is a private pool, instead of a public one is how the sides of the pool do not have the water catching tray thingy underneath the rim of the pool.
In one of the other pictures, you can tell that it is one of the public bathrooms and changing rooms at a public pool. You can tell this because there are multiple people getting ready to go swimming, and the walls of the bathroom are totally dingy and gross. There appears to be black grime and crap on the walls, and the sinks look older, with some calcium build up due to lack of care. The pool probably is not very new or well kept up.
Another photo that catches the eye is the photo of the girl washing her hands, in what is clearly a public bathroom. It is so obvious that it is a public bathroom because of the setup. The tiles go half way up the wall, It is open, dark, and dingy, and no private bathroom would ever have one of those soap dispensers. Also you notice that the mirror is small and you can barely catch a glimpse of the girls face in it.

  1. The floating doll made me sad, to think of a past so long ago full of things which seemed so important, like a doll. That seemed so long ago, a carefree life, with sentimental things.
