Melissa Ann Piney’s work was very interesting to me. I liked how the girls in pictures almost seemed like props to the background. She does a really good job capturing the true teenage girl in probably one of the most important parts of their lives. The gallery of “Girl Ascending” was short but very cool in showing the different stages of a young girl’s life. In these photos, Melissa does a great job of showing place and how the girls are connected with that place. “The Cellar Door Series” was a little boring to me. It seemed a little too much like amateur photography to me. I thought that this series looked like something you would see in someone’s family photo album of their kids. Overall, I think that she does a great job in capturing the true American girl in all of her surroundings.
I agree they were very natural pictures of how girls really react to the natural changes that they go through.
