Reaction Paper #6
Melissa Ann Pinney's photos use the landscape to enhance the subject in the foreground. The details of the places she captured fill in all the details that appear to be missing or somewhat aloof from the subject.
My favorite collection was "The White Dress Project." When I saw the title before I had seen the photos I thought it was going to be kind of bland. I was surprised to find so many different white dresses, different girls of different ethnics, and different landscapes adding so much to each photo. This collection portrayed the girls' elegance and innocence; Both are remarkably established in every single photograph of this collection.
I also found "Regarding Emma" to be very interesting. This collection chronicles a girl's life from childhood to old age. This collection features several girls from several backgrounds in several places. Unique. Lots of pictures from childhood, fewer from teens and twenties, pictures from several weddings, then no pictures til old age, because the time in between just seems to fly by and you don't have time. Just like real life. Her element of place and landscape doesn't seem to stand out as much in this collection because it only adds minor details to the subjects.
The White Dress Projct was not my favorite but I see where you are coming from with the different dresses and the different ethnic girls.
