Robert Sojka is the photographer that I choose to research and look at his pictures for this project. After looking through many of his albums I have found that his landscape photos are like any landscape photo although they are from multiple places around the world. I later found out that he is actually a Destination Wedding Photographer. While he is away doing wedding photographs he has time to travel and take his Fine Art Landscape photos as well. His pictures are absolutely breath taking. Not only does he have landscape photos but also an album of American Bald Eagles. These photos are beautiful. Great pictures to stand for and represent the United States of America. He first fell in love with photography when his father gave him an SLR film camera when he was very young. His family made him the “photographer” for the family trips to Europe. He is not well known for his landscape photography but very well known for his engagement and wedding photographs. The reason why I chose Sojka as my photographer because I am using pictures that I had taken on two trips I recently was on. One, when I went to Mexico for my brother’s destination wedding in Los Cabos. And the other place being Mexico where I went on a trip with my best friend to get away a while on vacation. His pictures are similar to mine in that they are of large landscapes that really have no meaning at all to the person looking at the photo but beauty. Behind that is the meaning of the photographer, the reason why he or she took it in the first place. Looking at his pictures I get a sense of there is so much more around the world that some people never get to see except in pictures. They only can imagine what it is really like to see these magical places. For example, I had always dreamed of sitting on the beach looking out into the ocean and wondering what people are doing on the other side, or if there are people on the ocean and what they are encountering. The world is such a mystery to everyone and a picture only shows a part of a place because only the photographer truly knows the feeling that place gave them at that certain point and time and what was possibly happening there. A quote that was on Sojka’s site was “a moment lasts lifetimes through photography, captured in an instant stopping time forever,” I really like this quote because it is the truth with any form of photography but truly landscape because over time, days, months, years places change and will never be the same and in the photo there is a moment that will be remembered forever.
